South Park

The South Park is a structural element for the city and its green system and is envisaged under the "Musman" plan as the main green wedge towards Vitosha. The conceptual design was developed and approved in 1972 (design team headed by architect M. Karlova), when its construction began. Territorially, 4 parts are distinguished - with an area of 134 hectares. In the late 70s, with the construction of the National Pallace of Culture, part one was removed and became the surrounding space - the palace square. Perlovska river, which originates from Dragalevtsi area, runs through the entire park. About 65 species of birds live in the South park, of which 29 are protected and two are listed in the Red book. Waterfowl birds stay in the lake during winter, because it does nt froze. The official entrance is from Vitosha blvd. At the main larges meadow at the park, thers is a sculpture of pigeons in flight - 1987 year.
