The amphitheater was located about 250 m from the ancient city and was connected to it through the Eastern Gate of Serdica.
It was a large, massive structure with an elliptical plan and a longitudinal axis oriented east–west.
Today, the remains of the theater lie parallel to Dondukov Boulevard, beneath several important buildings in the center of Sofia. Parts of it can be seen in the hotel’s foyer.
The Amphitheater of Serdica is comparable in size to the Colosseum in Rome and was the second largest of its kind within the boundaries of the empire.
