The German Monastery of St. John of Rila is located near the village of German, south of Sofia. Founded in the 13th century, it is linked to the Rila literary tradition. The monastery was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, especially during Ottoman rule. Today it functions as an active spiritual and cultural center. It preserves frescoes, architecture, and medieval monastic memory.
