Kremikovtsi Monastery of Saint George the Victorious is located near Sofia, at the foot of the Balkan Mountains. Founded in the fourteenth century, it is among the oldest monasteries in the region. It is renowned for valuable fifteenth–sixteenth century frescoes and for its role as a medieval spiritual and literary center. Today it remains an cultural heritage site in Bulgaria.
