The Kurilo Monastery of St. Ivan of Rila is located near the village of Kurilo, today a district of Novi Iskar. It was founded in the sixteenth century, likely on an older medieval site. The church was built in 1593, with frescoes from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. It functions as an active nunnery and cultural monument of national significance.
