The Sofia Opera and Ballet building has a long history. It began when Alexander Stamboliiski's agrarian government came to power in 1921. He commissioned architect Lazar Parashkevov to design it, who created a hall with amazing acoustics. The implementation of the entire project took three decades and went through several changes of government and two constructions. The initial plan was for the building to house the headquarters of the agrarian party, as well as separate halls and buildings for cultural events and a permanent agricultural exhibition, a historical museum, etc.
