The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Sofia is an Orthodox Christian site with deep historical roots. An early church is believed to have stood here since the 4th century during the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great, and a 13th‑century church was built by Sebastocrator Kaloyan, with its remains still visible underground. This medieval church was destroyed in the March 30, 1944 bombings of Sofia but was rebuilt in the 1950s. The miraculous icon of St. Nicholas survived the destruction and remains a focus of devotion.
