The Catholic Byzantine (Eastern-Catholic) Church “Dormition of the Mother of God” in Sofia is the cathedral of the Bulgarian Greek Catholic Eparchy of Sofia.
Built in 1924 with support from Pope Benedict XV and Pope Pius XI, it followed the organization of the Eastern Catholic community in 1921. In 1926, the Apostolic Exarchate of Sofia was established with its seat at the church.
It is named for the feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God (15 August) and serves as the main liturgical center for Byzantine-rite Catholics in Bulgaria.
