Sofia is set to share its story with a global audience through The Greatest Cities on Earth, the international documentary series hosted by Professor Bethany Hughes. Filming begins in April as part of the acclaimed production highlighting some of the world's most remarkable cities.
In preparation for the project, the Visit Sofia team held an expert meeting with representatives from cultural institutions and specialists in archaeology, history, culture and tourism. The discussion brought together valuable expertise to help create an authentic and compelling portrayal of Sofia for international audiences.
The documentary will showcase the city's rich historical heritage, vibrant contemporary life and unique atmosphere, highlighting the qualities that continue to establish Sofia as an increasingly attractive destination for international travellers.
Finalised at the end of 2025 following several months of collaboration between Visit Sofia and the production team, the project represents an important milestone in strengthening Sofia's international visibility.
