Historical City Tours in Sofia This June

This June marks the final four historical city tours in Sofia, organised jointly by Sofia Platform Foundation and Visit Sofia.

Since November, nearly 700 participants have joined the initiative. The June programme once again invites visitors and residents to explore Sofia's recent history through the places, stories and memories that continue to shape the city today.

The walking tour "The Establishment of the Regime" explores the aftermath of the coup of 9 September 1944, the cult of Georgi Dimitrov, the mechanisms of fear and propaganda, and the lasting impact of the totalitarian regime.

Starting point: Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski"
Date & Time: 6 June, 11:00–12:30

The walking tour "In the Footsteps of Freedom" takes participants back to 1989, revisiting the protest sites, the "City of Truth" and the first public expressions of freedom that marked Bulgaria's democratic transition.

Starting point: Fountain in front of the Presidency Building
Date & Time: 20 June, 11:00–12:30

The historic tram tour "Memory" follows Sofia's central boulevard and introduces participants to significant locations connected with state control and political power between 1944 and 1989. It offers a unique perspective on the city's recent history beyond the pages of textbooks.

Starting point: Lion's Bridge tram stop (towards Central Sofia Market Hall)
Dates & Times: 28 June at 11:00 and 13:00

Participation in all tours is free of charge, but places are limited and advance registration is required.
