To mark the 147th anniversary of Sofia being declared the capital of Bulgaria, Visit Sofia organised walking tours that transformed the city into a true open-air classroom.
More than 200 children from schools across Sofia took part in this journey through time, filled with curiosity, new knowledge and a stronger sense of belonging to their city.
The tour began in front of St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, one of Sofia's most iconic landmarks. At the Sofia Municipality building, the children learned about the beginnings of local government and the city's development into a modern European capital.
Some of the participants also had the opportunity to visit the office of Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, making the experience even more exciting and memorable.
The tour continued to the former Royal Palace, where the children discovered more about the history of Bulgarian statehood. In front of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, they explored the importance of culture and its role in shaping the nation's identity.
The final stop in the City Garden reinforced the idea that Sofia is more than just a place—it is a vibrant community that brings together history, culture and a modern urban spirit.
Each child received a "My Sofia" badge from the Visit Sofia team—a small but meaningful keepsake that will remind them of their connection to the city and the experiences they shared on this special day.
