Sofia continues to strengthen its position as a preferred destination for Polish tourists, recording significant growth during the first half of 2026.
For the period January–June 2026, compared with the same period in 2025, the city recorded:
+89% growth in tourist arrivals
+82% growth in overnight stays
As part of an exclusive FAM Trip organized by Municipal Enterprise Tourism – Visit Sofia, in partnership with Bulgaria’s National Tourism Representation in Poland, journalists from leading Polish media outlets had the opportunity to discover the rich cultural heritage, wine traditions and tourism potential of Sofia and the surrounding region.
During the four-day programme, the guests visited some of the capital’s leading cultural and historical attractions and learned more about its rich heritage and contemporary culinary scene. The visit also included a one-day trip to Rila Monastery and a tasting of Bulgarian wines showcasing the distinctive flavours and traditions of the region.
A major factor behind the growing interest in Sofia is the excellent air connectivity between Bulgaria and Poland.
LOT Polish Airlines – Warsaw: 38 flights per week
Wizz Air – Warsaw: up to 10 flights per week after 8 June 2026; Kraków: 8 flights per week
Ryanair – Modlin: 12 flights per week; Kraków: 8 flights per week; Wrocław: 4 flights per week
Active marketing campaigns, strategic partnerships and excellent transport connectivity continue to stimulate interest among Polish tourists and strengthen Sofia’s position as an attractive European destination for cultural, urban and wine tourism.
The city’s rich cultural and historical heritage, developing tourism infrastructure and wide range of experiences are contributing to Sofia’s increasingly successful positioning in the Polish market as a year-round destination.
The outlook is for the sustained interest among Polish visitors to continue growing, supported by excellent air connections, targeted promotion of the city and ongoing efforts to develop competitive tourism products.
