Sofia reveals its creative spirit through The Sofianer, an inspiring cultural project that presents the Bulgarian capital through the eyes of contemporary artists, transforming the city into a canvas for visual storytelling.
Visit Sofia supports the initiative as part of its ongoing efforts to promote Sofia as a modern, creative and recognisable European capital. Projects like The Sofianer help shape the city's contemporary identity by placing culture and creativity at the heart of its international image.
At the centre of the project is a beautifully designed bilingual publication featuring 72 original cover illustrations created by 60 artists, each inspired by the iconic visual style of The New Yorker. Every cover offers a unique artistic interpretation of Sofia, capturing its contrasts, history, energy and cultural diversity.
The publication combines visual art and literature, featuring texts by acclaimed Bulgarian authors Georgi Gospodinov and Konstantin Valkov, alongside original editorial content prepared by Visit Sofia, enriching the artistic narrative of the city.
The Sofianer demonstrates that Sofia is not only a city with a remarkable historical heritage but also a vibrant centre of contemporary culture, creativity and artistic expression.
The project is produced by the Multi Kulti Association and the Credo Bonum Foundation, whose collaboration brings together art, literature and urban identity in a distinctive cultural publication.
