Green Libraries in Sofia’s Parks – 2026

Aug 1, 2026 12:00 AM / Sep 12, 2026 12:00 AM

The 12th season of Sofia City Library’s traditional Green Libraries campaign begins on 1 August in South Park and continues on weekends in parks across Sofia.

The initiative encourages reading from an early age and attracts new readers through a diverse outdoor programme. Over the years, Sofia City Library’s “green literary trails” have expanded to an increasing number of parks and neighbourhoods across the capital.

The 2026 programme includes meetings with popular authors, themed exhibitions and live music performances. Children and students can take part in creative STEM games, robot programming, activities with 3D pens, discover traditional Korean hanbok clothing and learn traditional Eastern games. The mobile library, Bibliobus, offers more than 1,500 titles that visitors can borrow and take home.

The Shared Books – Take, Read, Return initiative also continues. Visitors can donate a book from their personal collection and choose another title to read. Sofia City Library also contributes new publications, giving them the opportunity to find new readers among Green Libraries visitors.

The programme brings together poets, writers, musicians, singers and young talents. Visitors can also explore documentary photography exhibitions dedicated to Sofia’s history, culture and development.

A special programme for children includes books, meetings with authors, music and dance performances, creative workshops and gifts. All visitors will also have the opportunity to receive free library membership cards.
