Smart Minerals for Smartphones

From November 1, the National Museum “Earth and Man” presents the new temporary exhibition “Smart Minerals for Smartphones”, dedicated to the Year of Mineralogy.

How are smartphones made? Is there a connection between copper mining in Chile, the USA and China and staying in touch with loved ones who are thousands of kilometres away? To hear and see them, you simply turn on your smartphone.

What role do minerals play? What are the ten most commonly used materials in a smartphone? What reserves of raw materials are available? How long will they last? Why is recycling old phones important?

The exhibition “Smart Minerals for Smartphones” provides answers to these questions and reveals many other little-known facts.
